Freedom From Fear
As fear, panic and anxiety are closely connected, this article relates to them all.
What went wrong with our fear mechanism? Many people have heightened fear responses that kick in during times it is definitely not required? Why do some shake in terror at the mere thought of going to the dentist, or confronting another, or even being out in public? Are people becoming more fearful over the decades, or is it just that we are more aware of what doesn’t feel good generally? Perhaps our lives are demanding more of us, forcing us to face new experiences and the unknown more frequently?
It seems that the more heightened our fear response becomes, the more scared people become of fear itself. We are told to get over, ignore or work through it, and some resort to medication to numb it. People will do anything to stop feeling this unpleasant sensation, often to no avail. Many people live with a knot deep inside their stomach that makes them feel ill, every single day.
People don’t seem to realize there is something we can do about everything we feel; and how, that not understanding what and why we feel certain things actually increases our anxiety and promote panic attacks.
No wonder people feel so helpless and trapped. Who wouldn’t when there are no obvious options?
Take anxiety and panic attacks for example; by learning how the fear response works and using known methods to regulate it, we can bring heightened levels back down to normal, thus removing the attacks.
Feeling anxious and fearful sensations have an impact on every single aspect of a person’s life. From health and well-being, controlling the freedom to be happy and productive, to the countless problems that avoidance tactics create. See Stress Reduction.
But we can turn our fear of fear around to our advantage. Imagine every single time you start to feel the first pangs of fear, saying to yourself “this can be the last time I ever feel this particular fear again.” And using that knowledge and determination to let this very strong emotion lead you right to its cause so you use Greene’s Release technique to heal it permanently!
Each fear you heal is one less to feel. And as you know, you can try and distract yourself from feeling it, or ignore it, but it does come back eventually, usually stronger. And, have you ever noticed that when you try really hard to avoid feeling your fears, how some part of your body starts aching or feeling unwell?
Would you rather spend your life running from your fears, or use that energy to cheer as each one comes up, because you know that it means “another one bites the dust”.
If anxiety, panic or fear is a big issue for you, Heal Your Self – A Journey to Find You will address your needs. It includes a very detailed Fear chapter which includes: panic attacks and normalizing fear responses, understanding where fear comes from, conscious vs. subconscious fears and how fears manifest. This book will teach you the tools to embrace your fears so you may eliminate them step by step.
If you have any doubt that you can do something about your fear, know that this article was written by a person who once experienced gut wrenching fear every single day, from birth onwards, lived with frozen pipes for 4 months rather than confront the landlord, shook at the mere thought of having to walk past people, let alone speak to or in front of them, and jumped out of moving cars to run inside and escape anxiety attacks.
Who then went on to become a person who delighted in social contact, at running workshops, facilitating and organizing groups of 100+ people, who is confident and outgoing and is no longer afraid to participate in life.
You can be fearless one day!
