Elaine Williams

Elaine Williams became a widow in 2004. Losing her spouse turned her world upside down and totally around. Each day became an exercise in getting through to the next. Many days she felt shut down by the pain, but was determined to keep plodding onward. Elaine decided to write about her experiences, as a caretaker of her husband, ill with cancer for 11 months, and then as a widow, single mother, and sole support for herself and her three boys, ranging in age from 10 to 19.

Always a writer, Elaine began to write about her journey approximately two and a half years after her husband’s passing. Steeped in pain, she struggled to find a way out of the pain, and writing for her was the best option available. Like many before and many after her, Elaine found the widow experience isolating, painful and emotionally unpredictable.

In the first few years she measured her healing by the amount of time that had passed. Surely she was ready to begin life anew at one year, two years.

By three years the pain had to be lessening. At four years, when Elaine decided to share her grief experiences with the world, A Journey Well Taken: Life After Loss was born.

Many days Elaine felt wonderful. She’d taken up sports and activities she enjoyed, began dance lessons and operated her own lawn maintenance business. However, from time to time Elaine still felt an upheaval of emotion. It almost always took her by surprise, and she wondered hadn’t she healed from her grief? Why had that upset caught her unawares once more?

In promoting her book, Elaine enjoyed visiting other social media sites and especially the internet blogs others wrote about loss and grief. It was a way to connect and share information with others. One day Elaine found Janet Greene’s blog and posted there. Janet responded with a personal email, explaining Greene’s Release, and offered Elaine a session to help release some of the pain associated with grief.

Thus began a four month working relationship which evolved into the collaborative effort you are reading today, Heal Your Pain.
